Alcazaba – imagine yourself in Moorish and Roman spheres!
Alcazaba (meaning citadel in Arabic) is a palatial fortress at the foot of Gibralfaro Hill. It is often cited as one of the most iconic sights of Málaga and the best-preserved Moorish fortress palace in Spain. When the Alcazaba was built, it was one of the most important defensive buildings in Málaga. It was built at a time when the Arabs ruled southern Spain and Portugal. Málaga was an important city in Moorish Andalusia thanks to its coastal location and busy harbor. Discover the remains of the brick walls that cling to the hill and see the fortified gates adorned with columns. Stroll through the Arabian gardens with beautiful alleys full of bougainvillea, jasmine and honeysuckle and enjoy the beautiful view of the city and the harbor. Besides the fortress that houses several palaces and patios, you will also find the ruins of the Teatro Romano.
Visit the Picasso Museum Málaga.
Málaga is not only the birthplace of Pablo Ruiz Picasso, but also offers a wonderful collection of his works. The Museo Picasso Málaga is located in the center of the old town, near the Plaza de la Merced, where Picasso was born. It shows a selection of Picasso’s work from the late 19th century until his death in 1973. The more than 200 works offer a unique insight into his developing style and are complemented by constantly changing contemporary exhibitions. The Buenavista Palace itself, which houses the museum, is a wonderful example of Andalusian architecture.

Explore El Mercado Central de Atarazanas, the market of Málaga!
The central market in Málaga is one of the best locations in the city to experience local life. A visit to the market gives you a glimpse into the abundance of products that this region of Spain has to offer. Nice detail: the central market halls were shipyards until the 14th century, after that the space was used for the storage of weapons and as a barracks and military hospital. Today it is home to one of the most vibrant and exciting environments in all of Málaga. The market includes hundreds of stalls selling fresh Spanish fruits and vegetables, fish, meat, cheese, olives, nuts and spices. The market can be overwhelming for a tourist at times, but don’t worry: there are plenty of small tapas stalls to grab a bite and a drink and enjoy the real life in Málaga. El Mercado Central de Atarazanas is located between the historic city center and the port of Málaga. The market is closed on Sundays.
